• There are 3 posts regarding this, but two are closed, and the third has a typo so no one will find it easily, and I did not open any of them. At any rate, I’ve been looking for a solution to this problem, wherein the DB lists the categories, but the page is blank. I’ve reuploaded the files twice, dropped the DB twice, downloaded the original archive twice, and set it up twice.

Can someone point me to where the solution to this might be?

Categories page is blank? Or the posts associated with those categories are blank?

    Which files did you upload?

Sorry, just trying to get a clear picture of your problem.

    The wp-admin/categories.php is blank.

    I cannot manage categories.

I can create a new category as suggested by others by creating the category in the “write posts” page. However even doing so does not allow me to manage categories.

This is a fresh install of WP2.1
    I’ve tried reinstalling everything.
I’ve tried downloading WordPress 2.1 over and uploading the new files.
I’ve tried deleting/dropping the database and reinstalling.

I’m very confused and considering I’m trying to record some videos on how to use WordPress it is quite annoying.

Yes my PHP and Mysql versions both meet the specifications.

    I’m confused.

Same thing here, there are several threads on it that are open but no one has offered a solution.

If I view through the Opera browser, I get a blank white page. If I view through Firefox or IE, I get a popup asking me what I want to do with categories.php (save to disk or choose a program to open it with)

Either way, I can’t manage categories. This is with both a fresh install and an upgrade.

Please, can someone help us answer this question?

Why does my “manage categories” NOT work on a NEW WordPress 2.1 install? Even if I create a new category using the “write post” I cannot “Manage Categories”.

The page is blank as if there is a PHP error.

    PLEASE help!

Any possibility we can get some help with this? The categories page is coming up blank when I select Manage->Categories.

Who can we get this in front of? Squeeky wheel time.

What do you have in your apache error logs?

No errors in my error log.

What ended up fixing it for me was completely random.

I deleted all the posts, wrote a new post.

Deleted all the blogroll links. Wrote a new blogroll link.

Suddenly I could go in and manage categories again. There was no rhyme or reason to it.

    – Ben

It’s still not working for me, Ben, but I did try deleting the blogroll links and adding another. Weird, one of my post categories is showing up as a blogroll category. The whole thing is wonky.

I’m seeing it too after upgrading to 2.1 The problem seems to be with line 121 of categories.php:

    include(‘edit-category-form.php’);

If I open that file in a browser I get:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: __() in /var/www/vhosts/mydomain.com/httpdocs/wp-admin/edit-category-form.php on line 10

    Hi all,
I just had the same problem and i got things working again.

I was working on a new website and i got the categories.php Open/Save As…-question when i tried to manage my categories.

    So what i did:
    – create a new category in the write-new-post screen.
    – create a post in this category (just a new category wasn’t enough to make things work)

Then, if you delete the post inside the new category
    things still work.
If you delete the catagory, the problem is back

I am encounter the same problems everyone is having with Manage category. Last night I accidentally create a duplicate category, so I delete it that when it all started. WP doesn’t allow me to manage category any more. bierflesje you mentioned that you can create a new category by writing a new post under the write-new-post screen. I went there but under the category are the categories that are already there, but I did not see any option to add a new category….Can you explain how you create a new category under write-new-post screen?

I which this problem can be solved. My site is Categories intensive and it would not work if I can’t create new categories… WP is great but this is driving me crazy.

I was having the same problem with a default installation of wordpress. I got it working by going to WRITE > WRITE POST & then adding a category using the form on the right. I was then able to access MANAGE > CATEGORIES

I tried to recover categories by going to WRITE>NEW POST as well – but it didn’t work – until I went into the plugin management area and first disabled Caching, Kings Categories and Permalinks. Then the above trick worked.
I was able to go back and delete all of the new categories, and re-enable the plugins and everything worked OK.
Somehow something was “hung” but it is OK now.

I don’t know if this is related but after i’ve disabled spam karma plugin (latest version) i again can access manage section in admin panel.
