Been working on this site forever on MAMP. Used Duplicator v1.2.0 a while back with XAMPP and did not have this problem:

All plugins except Duplicator are deactivated. The Builder phase works fine on localhost. I can download the Archive .zip file to the Win Desktop via the “blue download button” but canNOT download the Installer.php file. Attempts to Save it result in this:

C:\Users\me\AppData\Local\Temp\3_Nxw7P1.php.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read. Try again later, or contact the server administrator.

NOTE: The Installer file is not named “Installer.php” as usual. Instead the name matches the Archive file name. The Installer file name is:
    20170824itb_3438c894e6eb49fa2247170824034522_installer.php

    That’s odd…

I’m attempting to migrate to a SUBdirectory on a HOstgator shared UNIX server, for example: public_html/wpsub. I copy the installer and archive files to that subdirectory, then in Firefox browser I double-click the Installer file to run it.

The Migration/Install process runs as expected until Step 4 of 4 when the ‘Site Login’ button FAILS. Firefox browser reports:

The page isn’t redirecting properly. Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete. This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies.

For the record, Firefox is set to “Accept all cookies.”

When I try to browse directly to the WP-installation subdirectory I’m met by the “Install WordPress” front page, not the Login page(?) The URL is mysite/wpsub/wp-admin/install.php. If I change that to mysite/wpsub/wp-login.php it reverts back to the “Install” front page.

I’m stumped, and despite the browser ERROR MESSAGE that references the SERVER redirecting improperly, the late-night Hostgator techsupp rep is blaming Firefox, WordPress, Duplicator and my dog, Ralph. Sheesh.

Can you shed any light on this, Corey?

Compatibility: This Server: [5.5.51] — Package Server: [5.6.34]

    Step 4 of 4: Test

    Show report:

    Database Report
    Created Tables 1 Rows 2 Cells N/A
    Scanned Tables 1 Rows 0 Cells 0
    Updated Tables 0 Rows 0 Cells 0

    Report Notices
    Step 2: Install Notices (5458) < < < <
    Step 3. Update Notices (0)
    Step 4. General Notices (0)

If I furnish you the installer-log.txt file, would that help?

I put up a basic web page with easy-to-understand information, complete with screen captures. Here’s the link:

A clear explanation of the problem

It’s a non-responsive html page, so you won’t be able to view it on handheld device. Please view on a desktop display.

Hostgator TechSupport just refers me back to “the plugin developer.”
    Tom

Go ahead and submit a ticket here and I can have a look at your installer-log.txt file… Just refer to this forum thread in the ticket.

    Thanks

I now have a handle on the db collation issue, but still need help with the fact that my Install.php file is not being named in the usual way. The filename contains the same long-string format as does the archive.zip file.

As a result, the Install file cannot be downloaded to my Windows Desktop (localhost) and I worry that the file contents might be altered in a way that makes it a factor in the problem I’m having.

    Can you please address this?
    Thanks

When you click the download button from the packages page, the download process will try to rename the file from the hashed (long string format). On the vast majority of most hosts this works, however, there are few that it will not work on. In that case, you can still download the file and use it. You can rename it to installer.php if you want but that is not required.

If the file does get corrupted on download then you may check out this FAQ item:

? ? – Why does the installer show as plain/binary text, a download prompt, or just not work?
    ? ? – https://snapcreek.com/duplicator/docs/faqs-tech/#faq-installer-010-q

    Hope that helps~
