MAMP local installation showing 500 internal server error

Memcache is installed on the server. If you don’t have Memcache active in your MAMP, you are going to trigger this error. Since the caching is immaterial during development, I would physically remove the W3 Total Cache.

Makes sense. My only concern would be that I made a local copy of the live site so I could test some new features before pushing the changes live. Would removing the plugin affect any of that?

Also, I’d like to keep it running on the live site, but I just want to remove it from the local site.

I can’t log into the dashboard from the local installation because of the fatal error.

Could I just delete the w3 total cache folder from the plugin folder in that local installation?

In this case, if the only difference between your live site and your dev site is the use of a caching plugin, that really shouldn’t affect anything other than performance.

The other option would be to install MemCache on your Mamp server. I think these articles detail the process pretty well.

I think I’ll stick with just deleting w3 total cache for now.

I followed the deletion instructions from this tutorial from the “remove files from web server” section onward

I’m getting this error message:

This site can’t be reached

localhost refused to connect.
ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

I tried clearing my browser cache in Chrome, tried it in Firefox and Safari. All other local installations are running fine. I’m stumped.

Ok, I fixed it. I had forgotten to change the home and site url in the database to the localhost:8888 url. I did that and now it works, although it’s a little slower now that I deleted the caching plugin. Oh well.

I am glad you got that worked out. I use Mamp at work and having to use the localhost:8888 is a real pain. I wish you a lot of luck with your project.
