Malware Detected in EWWW media folder (PNGOUT STATIC)

    WordFence just reported that a malicious file was found (even though we had disabled and removed your plugin months ago) in: wp-content/ewww/pngout-static

    Any reports of this before?

    I haven’t specifically seen any reports about PNGOUT, as that binary is over 5 years old.
    But, I do know that there is a new release which mentions “hardening options enabled during compilation”. I believe that’s just a GCC option, and not necessarily indicative of any known threat, but I do plan to update the PNGOUT installer very soon anyway.

    All that said, if you’re not using EWWW IO anymore, go ahead and remove that whole folder.
