Hi, I have gotten a warning from my host (bluehost) that they will be shifting to PHP 8 and my web site will need to be compatible with that. When I try changing to PHP 8 I get a “There has been a critical error on this website.” when I try to access the site, so clearly something needs to be changed.

I am using WordPress 5.9.1 with the Hueman Theme v3.7.20, so all up to date.
    I see from here:

    WordPress 5.9 and PHP 8.0-8.1

That WordPress 5.9.1 is not quite compatible with PHP 8, but that does not tell me what I should do next as someone who is not a developer.
I looked at the PHP Compatibility Checker, but that only seems to apply to PHP 7.

Any advice for me? I was hoping I could just update something, but I can’t see what.

    Hello,

If your website throws a critical error after switching to PHP 8, it is probably because the plugins or the theme you use are not ready to support PHP 8.0

There is no solution to this, as it is up to each developer to update their product.
If you use a plugin that has few downloads or has not been updated for a long time, it is probably time to think about changing your plugin because it is not going to be ready for this new generation.

From what I’ve seen, according to the developer of Hueman theme, the free and pro versions are PHP 8 ready so most likely the bug lies in some plugin.

I recommend you to activate the debug mode in WordPress to see what error the debug throws.
For activating the debug mode, check this guide

    Hope it helps,
    Have a good day ??

Thank you! I could not see how to activate debug mode, but what I ended up doing was even more basic. I deactivated all the plug ins and reactivated them one by one until I found the culprit. It was indeed a plug in.
