• I’m just learning about all this.
I want to do “pages”, not “posts”. I’ve downloaded WordPress and a theme and have a web host.
When I enter my webpage address my the search bar, the address I’m going to put on business cards, it comes up with that “Hello, world!” generic thing and I can’t figure out how get into that main page to edit it.
I want my main page URL to be just https://www.funwithliasophia.com, with nothing else after that.
I see how I can “add” pages, but how do I edit my MAIN page? And how do I get the URL to read just “https://www.funwithliasophia.com, with no “/blahblahblah”?
    Thanks a bunch!

Login here to edit your stuff. Pages you create will have the page name after the domain name, that’s just how it works.

It’s also much easier for users as compared to having only the domain name in their address bars no matter which page they’re actually on.

Thank you. Unfortunately, that doesn’t answer my question.

I know your main page can appear in the URL bar as just a “.com” because I’ve seen other users’ pages.
I just need to know how I can edit my home page.

I have the same question. I am using WordPress on a site that forces me to set WordPress as my default site editor. I expected WordPress to install and take over my site. I can get into the admin no problem – but when I go to my site, I still see the former home page. I was expecting WordPress to install a default home page using the theme I had selected. I don’t want people to have to add a “/xxx” directory on the end of my domain. So, I wait for an answer as well.

You want a Static Page as your Front Page.

    1) Create a Static Page, with any arbitrary name (e.g. “Front Page”)
    2) Go to Dashboard -> Settings -> Reading
    3) Change “Front page displays” to “A static Page”
    4) In the “Front Page” dropdown, select the page you created in Step #1 (i.e. “Front Page”)

Now, your Front Page shows a static Page, rather than the blog posts index.

@kisertn: start a new topic. Your issue is entirely separate from this one.

Thank you so much, Chip! That answers my question!

    I have a similar situation:

I would like to have a multi-page site with my main page’s url to be “www.mydomain.com” (no “/blahblahblah” after it) and have it display my posts.

I would also like this page to be editable within wp-admin, as I want to tweak it and include it in the site’s menu.

But I can’t seem to find a way to create a page without WP adding the /blahblahblah to the end of the url.

And if I just leave the page as “www.mydomain.com” then I can’t actually work with the page, as it’s not listed in the Pages section in wp-admin.

I understand that I can create a static page and use it as my main page. But I can’t find a way to create ANY page without WP putting /blahblahblah at the end of the url.

So, to put it shortly, how does one create a page (static or otherwise), that can be editable in wp-admin and included in a menu, that does NOT have a url with /blahblahblah at the end?

It looks like many others are doing this, so there must be a way.

    Am I overlooking something?

If this is impossible by standard wp-admin ways, is there a practical workaround?

Sorry, I didn’t explain my situation well enough. I wanted a way to use my domain name as the url of my main page, and have this page be both my main page AND my posts page.

But I found a way to do this with no problem with the theme I’m using.

So my problem has been resolved.

    Thanks anyways.
