Last week or so I recieved an email from wordpress regarding a vulnerability being detected with a plugin. I was told nothing harmful happened and it would automatically update for me if I had a particular version (which I did) fast forward- I’m checking my site today to add pictures and MOST of my pictures are MISSING.

I have no idea how long this has been going on and it has cost me BUSINESS. I’m extremely upset as I pay monthly for service and my host (bluehost) said they can’t help because it’s a WordPress issue.

Hello Dolly is the plug in that is causing this issue. Please fix asap.

Hello Dolly does not have vulnerabilities. It’s a simple plugin that doesn’t take any inputs.

However, malicious code can hide in any plugin or PHP file on your system. Being that Hello Dolly is one of the default plugins that comes with WordPress. It is a frequent target for adding malicious and hidden code into.

This is not the fault of the plugin, as such code can be added to literally any file on a system. If you find malicious code in this plugin, you should seek out the method by which your host was infiltrated. Basically Hello Dolly is the victim here, not the instigation point of a malware attack.

@eesh73 I’m sorry to hear that you faced such a problem. But as Otto said, the problem is not with this plugin. I think your problem is caused by this one.

    Thank you.

I was able to hopefully correct the issue right after I posted.
