• Hi, I’m new to wordpress and notice that I’m not really able to achieve the look I’m going for when I write my articles. I seem to spend so much time uploading, deleting, re-uploading my pictures, all to no avail. How can I get them all to be the same width??? I don’t mind if their heights are different. Also, how can I place them exactly where I want them? Right now, I’m just sort of approximating their locations. thanks for your help!

Make sure that the uploaded files are all the same width.

In which web browser? There’s no such thing as a pixel-perfect cross-browser display.

There must be a better way than making sure all the original files are the same width and as for the browser I think if you just take a look at some professional websites (this forum, for instance) you’ll agree that a certain level of uniformity is certainly possible.

Go to Settings > Media and set the size settings. When you upload a image make sure it is larger then the Large size. Now when you have to insert an image you have multiple sizes to choose from.

The best method is to start with images that are roughly the same size.

Agreed but that’s not the same as placing elements exactly where you want them. Web browsers simply do not work that way. Web != print. A good cross-browser display depends upon a number of factors including reasonably valid page markup and CSS, uniform source images and some knowledge of HTML and CSS if you want to carry out any fine tuning/positioning.

I know for instance, I can specify the width and height of images but what I want to do is have the width static and let the height vary depending on the original size of the image. There must be a way to code this and place it in the formatting.php

Keesiemeijer – you are wonderful!! That’s exactly what I was looking for and it did the trick. thank you.

Well, I guess I spoke too fast. Your tips did work but only for the top half of the page. For some reason the formatting isn’t working on the lower half – can you think of why not?

Maybe you have to re-upload the images of the lower half of the page for the new image sizes to adhere to the new settings
