  • Hi @jamierood,

Thanks for reaching out to us!

Vertical images are much larger than horizontal – guess Woo Commerce Storefront theme just goes by the Horizontal width setting

In general, we recommend uploading images that are the same width and height (e.g., 800 × 800 pixels). The images on https://jamierood.com/shop-ls/category/fine-art-prints/ appear to be either landscape or portrait images, so they have different widths and heights.

I am not quite sure what you mean by:

For instance a 300×200 pixel image should display the same as a 200×300 pixel image

These images sizes are different and cannot be displayed the same way. One is 300 pixels in height and the other is 200 pixels in height, for example. Are you asking if it possible for both to appear as 300 × 200 pixels, or say 300 × 300 pixels?

    Hi Niall – thanks!
Although quite a lot of extra work creating a square format for all my images as I port over, wouldn’t mind, but on the product page, that would be a lot of wasted space and I like the way they are displayed there currently – especially the vertical ones.
And, yes, 200×300 – 600 square pixels – 300×200 = 600 square pixels – ie. ‘same size ?? Right now they are displaying ‘same width’, but horizontal about ‘half size’.
Every online store I’ve done has taken care of this automatically – Woo Commerce is the first I’ve run into that doesn’t handle this well, but love the idea of integrating with my blog/website and SEO benefits..

    Hi @jamierood,

Thanks for the clarification. I think I understand what you mean now. Here’s what I see on your site:

If I understand correctly, you would like to display the images so they are the same width and height (square), right?

If so, please visit WP-Admin > Appearance > Customize > WooCommerce > Product Images. Next, select the 1:1 option under “Thumbnail Cropping” as follows, which should crop the images into a square automatically:

I also noticed that your site appears to use Jetpack Site Accelerator for serving images, which should automatically detect and load the updated image sizes.

Please let us know how that goes or if you need further help!

thanks again for the attentive reply ??
Cannot seem to find WP-Admin Appearance, but have the Product Images page before somewhere.

The problem with cropping is it renders the image not-representitive of what the customer is purchasing and just does not look good/right. I spend days & weeks creating these works of art and am trying to present to the viewer to entice them to purchase, so they need to see the whole image.

I used to be and work with programmers & techies, so I understand there is often a disconnect in what the artist needs & a techie may think works for everyone. Now that being said, I DO make them into square coasters, but usually not a simple crop will suffice – the image is ‘different’ ??

    Hi, @jamierood!

I get what you mean about the disconnect sometimes between artists and techies. ??

That said, if you’d still like to give Niall’s suggestion a go, you should be able to find “Appearance” on the left sidebar of your WP Admin dashboard. Depending on your site, you might have to scroll down a bit to see it:
