Making font bold in Featured Category Slider

Hi, I was wondering if someone might be able to help. I’m not totally happy with the way my post titles look in the Featured Category Slider and Highlighted Posts widgets – because the writing is over the background of a photograph making it quite hard to read. Is there a way I can make it stand out more, e.g. by making it bold?
