Making CSS Edits

Hello, I have tried following the instructions from https://tri.be/support/documentation/events-calendar-themers-guide/ with now luck. I am trying to make a CSS edit. I created a folder within my theme folder and then tried copying over the CSS file and also creating a new one. However, neither of these files seem to be called upon by the Events Calendar plugin. What am I missing? Any help, tips or suggestions you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
