Making certain fields required – Form Extension

Hi, is there a way to make specific form fields required? It seems like the name is required but that’s all and my client needs other fields of the form to be required before submitting. I’ve added red asterisks to “persuade” users but that’s not enough. I’m using a child theme if there’s maybe a PHP snippet I could add.
