making a blog a website

  • I have a website that i want to turn into a blog site. How would i go about this?

    I already have wordpress installed on my server for a blog i currently have. But i wanted to get a second blog to use as a website with a shopping cart.

    Do i have to reinstall wordpress on my server? If doing this option will i lose the current blog that i have

    Also if i have to reinstall wordpress would i be able to use fantastico to install a second instance of WordPress on the same server but in a different folder.

    or is there another way that i can get another wordpress blog on my server without using the current blog?

    sorry for all the questions i just dont know the best way to go about this

  • I am not sure how your cPanel is configured,

    my server at mediatemple asks me where to install the one-click installation of wordpress,

    you might try store.yourwebsiteurl.com,

    when it asks you about the database installation, use a different database entirely, if you can, or use a custom table tag instead of the default “wp_” use “wp_store_” this will keep things separated.

    you will now have two blogs on the server running independently.

    ok im using hostgator.

    so i wont lose my first blog thats attached to my server once i reinstall the wordpress

    im gonna do what thommeredith said to do and reinstall wordpress and get another blog that way

    and hope i dont lose my first blog

    As long as you don’t drop the original tables in the database, you won’t lose the content. If you’re going to use the same database, use a different table prefix: by default your original one no doubt has the prefix as wp_ – so if you’re using the same database, you can give the new tables the prefix of wp1_ or something….

    well i did it and put it in a different directory and it installed as wrdp2

    and i still have my original blog

    so im so happy i didnt lose anything
