make width of main bigger, decrease sidebar width

Do not edit the Leaf theme itself. First create a child theme for your changes. Or install a custom CSS plugin.

so I cannot use the CSS already in Leaf?

You can use the Custom CSS option that’s part of the theme. Add your changes there. But changing layout on a responsive site is not always easy/simple unless you have a fairly good understanding of CSS…

You should not edit the stylesheet in Leaf, no.

after searching I found a post similar to mine. he said he added this? where did he add it?

You must add it in Custom CSS area in admin

problem is fixed. i used the code in the custom css field and adjusted the numbers to my liking. Thanks for your help.
