    Hi tuxlog,

super Plugin! Gonna continue in English for the sake of others…

Is there any possibility to make the corresponding smilies appear in the input field already? I am somewhat concerned that my users cannot grasp the meaning of “:good:” and are wondering why the smilies do not appear. :-/

I recon that it isn’t possible because the IMG-substitution only occurs after POST and the comments / postings would have to have a dynamic preview in order for the smilies to show up as images directly – right?

Any workaround possible / you can think of? I am using bbPress and would like to insert the smilies as images into the text-field for the postings/replies…

    Thanks & regards!

    hi leander,

yes, thats a great idea and I have already checked if this is possible long ago. Well, as long as WordPress uses a html textarea for the comment this is not possible. Because a textarea does not allow other input than text.

OK, thanks for the clarification. Guess this relates to security reasons and therefore we shouldn’t be too ungrateful or sad…

Anyhow, keep up the good work & greetings from Berlin!

May be there is some comment plugin, which can show the icons instead of html link to picture? Plugin is good, but that link code is horrable..

    Hi,

you can configure wp-monalisa if it shows the html code or the Smilies. If this works also depends on the theme you use.

I cant do it, with a different themes, include basics from wordpress.
The only think which looks better, if to tick off “Replace emoticons with html-images: “. In that case smile show like :smileTag:
    But its not a picture

Well, it depends. If your theme uses a normal textarea as the comment text field, it is not possible to show the icons because a textarea can only show text (maybe this is because the call it textarea ?? )

If you have a tinymce editor for comments the images can be displayed.
