Make recipes posts (not cards)?

You don’t need to add recipes as part of a regular post. It’s also possible to make the recipe post type public. Then each recipe will have its own URL: https://help.bootstrapped.ventures/article/291-the-recipe-post-type

Wow, that’s brilliant! Thanks a lot – it does exactly what I want. I think the only thing I’d like to add now is a +New->Recipe in the logged-in header (like +New->Post).

Actually, I seem to have one issue with it: The recipes don’t turn up on the front page (like regular posts). I’m guessing that’s because they’re not posts, but something more similar to pages? Is there any easy way to make them appear everywhere a post would?

That’s correct. Recipes are a different post type, so they won’t show up where regular posts are showing up.

For a recipe overview page I usually recommend setting up a grid, like the examples here:
