Make Most Recent Post Appear in Content (featured post)

Hi-

I’d like to modify my twentyfourteen child theme so that the most recent post appears in the content, regardless of whether it is tagged as featured or not. Currently, the most recent featured posts will go in the featured post grid and then will get bumped down to the normal content (along with all content that wasn’t tagged as featured) after there are more newer featured posts than there are grid spots.

The 6 featured posts don’t show up in the normal content below. The post called “So we moved to Amsterdam” was showing up in the featured grid until there were 6 newer featured post, so now it is showing up in normal content (below the non-featured post called “Brouwerij Troost”). I want all posts to show up (with the most recent post first) regardless of tag. For example, I want the post called “Week 3” to be both the most recent featured post and the most recent in the content section of the home page.
