    Hi there,

If I put the Jersey and Guernsey postcodes in to my Tax settings Standard Rates it doesn’t remove the tax in the cart.

How do you set it to remove the tax for customers in certain postcodes?

    Thanks

Channel Islands the surf company? Just kidding.

You would go into the settings area, click the Tax tab and add specific zips one by one.

Also, there’s more information over here.

    And even more over here.

    Hi Stef,

    To be a bit clearer, in my Tax settings Standard Rates I have set two rows;

    1. With UK to have VAT at 20%
    2. For Jersey and Guernsey (I have tried entering postcodes, and have tried country codes) to have tax at 0%

This doesn’t seem to remove the VAT in the cart when I select Jersey or Guernsey as the country.

    What might I have missed?

Marking this as resolved, as the above answer would be the correct one.

With all respect and thanks to Stef, the above answer didn’t answer my question. It suggested I fill in some of the the settings which I already had, and linked to the Woo Docs I have already referred to. I have set it up as they suggest, and as Stef suggested, but it isnt working.

My question is, having already filled in the rows as I describe above, and it isnt working, what to check next and how to troubleshoot.

    Thanks ??

It’s probably not working for you because the geolocator has your location as being in a specific zone rather than the zone you’re trying to tax separately. That’s the only thing I could think of.

    Hi there,

Please make sure you have it set to calculate based on Customer’s billing (or shipping) address, rather than the Shop Base address (otherwise it will not change based on the address entered at checkout):

Using the Country codes available here:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-1_alpha-2#Officially_assigned_code_elements

I set three rows in my tax settings, one for UK, one for Jersey, and one for Guernsey:

And see tax calculating as set — 20% for UK, and 0% for the other two:

If you set your rates the same, do you see the same behavior?

    I hope that helps!

    Hi Kelly,

Thanks for such a thoughtful answer! I think your last picture shows me that when you select Jersey or Guernsey it doesnt add tax but when you select the UK it adds tax. And I can see in your settings that you enter the prices excluding tax. So I assume in your shop all prices show excluding tax? If I select ship by customer address then it changes all my shop prices to remove the tax and then adds them at the end, which would be quite odd for a UK customer.

So this is working a bit differently to what I have in mind I think – I want all prices to display showing tax, and to remove the tax if they select Jersey or Guernsey. We only have customers from these locations once in a blue moon so if it isnt possible to get it right it isnt a disaster. But I’m surprised I cant get it to do it in Woo.

    Thanks again!

I think I have found the answer! I had everything right in the Tax settings, but clicking the box in general settings to have Default Customer Location at my shop base has stopped the prices displaying without tax when I have the tax setting set to Customer Shipping Address.

    Thanks again Kelly!

    Hi there,

Nice! Glad to hear you were able to sort that out! : )

Yep, that way it will default first to your shop base address and calculate prices in the shop based on that. Then when the customer chooses a different address at Checkout it will calculate prices based on that address (and remove tax for Jersey or Guernsey).

I’m going to mark this thread as resolved.

    Have a wonderful day!
