Make Calculate shipping in the basket required before going to checkout

    Is there a way to make “calculate shipping” required before the customer can proceed to checkout?

    Just to clarify, did you already have a chance to test with the code snippets linked here, only the WooCommerce plugin active, and the Storefront theme (linked here), or otherwise?

    I have tried both methods with only Woocommerce and The Storefront theme active.

    The first option doesn’t work at all.

    The second option displays the notice “A shipping method is required in order to proceed to checkout” at the top of the page and the Checkout button is active but even after entering a Postcode and the shipping rate is displayed when you click on Proceed to Checkout the checkout page says “There are some issues with the items in your basket. Please go back to the basket page and resolve these issues before checking out.”

    Neither seem to work but even if option two did work I think it would confuse customers. It would be preferable to have the notice appear at the shipping section and to have the Proceed to Checkout button inactive until a Postcode was entered.

    Unfortunately, making the “calculate shipping” required before proceeding to checkout is not a built-in feature of WooCommerce. This would require custom code to achieve, which is beyond the scope of the support we can offer.

    However, I recommend hiring a developer who specializes in WooCommerce, as they may be able to assist you further with this customization. Alternatively, you could also consider submitting this as a feature request on our Ideas Board and add your vote(s) to it. The more popular an idea becomes, the more of a priority it is for our developers to review it.
