Major problem with new Woocommerce update

    Hi there. I really need some help please. When updating Woocommerce, it caused a critical error and crashed my website. I had to get help from my hosting provider. It also completely uninstalled Woocommerce, as in completely uninstalled.

    They had to do all sorts of backend wizardry that I don’t understand. Eventually they were able to fix the problem and I was able to reinstall Woocommerce.

    Now, however, my Cart and Checkout pages do not display. You can access the pages, but nothing displays. If I go to edit the page, it says “your site does not support Woocommerce cart”. If I recover the block it shows html code but it won’t display.

    After contacting my host support again, they did some more backend wizardry but could not fix the issue. They gave me this to relay to the Woocommerce developers:

    I have absolutely no idea what any of this means or how to fix it. My host support said I needed to contact Woocommerce because there’s an error with the plugin itself. It’s keeping customers from being able to check out on my website.

    This must be really scary, and I hope we can help you narrow this issue down.

    From that error message, based on its reference to advanced-product-fields-for-woocommerce-pro, it looks like the issue may be coming from the Advanced Product Fields (Product Addons) for WooCommerce plugin.

    Do you perhaps have that on your site? If yes, can you see if disabling it fixes your issue?

    Hi, Cara. Thank you so much for your reply and help!

    As per the php wizards with my hosting provider and the support thread you referenced, the error is not due to the Advanced Product Fields plugin, but rather a corrupted update for Woocommerce itself. They were very specific on that point and said specifically that I needed to get support from the Woocommerce developers and not the APF plugin devs.

    Something is corrupted with the new Woocommerce plugin that was just released. That’s the plugin I tried to update when it crashed my website and completely uninstalled itself.

    I know the basics of some of this stuff, but that’s it. I don’t know how to code php or anything like that, so beyond what my host support provided me above, I don’t even know where to begin to try to diagnose or fix this. I therefore truly and sincerely appreciate any help that you could provide.

    After another detailed round just now with my hosting provider support, the error is with the Woocommerce code. The last person I spoke with informed me they’ve had multiple reports of the same issue today, that I needed to contact the Woocommerce developers and that Woocommerce needs to release an update to fix the issue.

    I had my host provider roll back my website to before the update and no change. Then I performed the new Woocommerce update successfully (what fixed the issue in the thread you referenced) and still no change. Everything in Woocommerce functions just fine except my cart and checkout pages. My hosting provider support also noted the exact same thing and after some backend troubleshooting could not determine the issue.

    My customers cannot check out.

    I checked your site and it seems you’ve already changed the cart/checkout pages to show some text.

    For added context, is it possible to share with us a screenshot of how the WooCommerce Cart and Checkout pages seem to appear? (I recommend https://snipboard.io for sharing screenshots.)

    Also, could you please share a copy of your site’s System Status? You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”.? Once you’ve done that, paste it here in your response.

    I can’t figure out how to get that screenshot link you sent me to work.

    Both the cart and checkout pages display nothing except for the title. You can add products to the cart, but when you view the cart nothing displays.

    When I tried to edit the cart and checkout pages, it said “this site does not support woocommerce cart” and gave me an option to attempt a block recovery. When I clicked on recover block, it displays html code. However, if I preview the page or save it and view it, nothing displays.

    The actual cart and checkout features have literally disappeared.

    Thanks for getting back.

    The SSR shows that the cart page is not yet set with the correct shortcode and you’ve not defined a shop page. For now, let’s start with the cart page.

    I would recommend that you create a new WooCommerce cart page. You’ll want to:
    1. Create a blank page on WP-Admin → Pages
    2. Insert the [woocommerce_cart] shortcode in the page and publish it.*Use the shortcode block*
    3. Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Advanced and set the newly created page as the cart page

    Abwaita, thank you!!! That worked! I also added the shortcode for the checkout page as well. I ran through a mock order and everything appears to be functioning again. I really appreciate your help!
