• I’m not much of a computer person, but have attempted to learn. When I was adding some google ads I was doing trial and error.

I went into my control panel editor and tried to fit a google ad code in. Usually I can paste it, look at the result, and then go back and cut it out if I didn’t like it. However, this time that didn’t work.

    I get this:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘<‘ in /home/content/80/5592280/html/wp-content/themes/takteek01/controlpanel.php on line 56

The problem is….it doesn’t allow me to go and try to fix the problem. I’m stuck. It won’t let me do any functions in my dashboard.

    My site is https://www.hotreadsports.com

    Please help!!!!

  • You may have to use use an ftp client to remove the errant code from controlpanel.php.

I don’t know what an ftp client is? Care to walk me through this?

It was such an innocent little thing and now I’m freaking out

Yea an ftp or your hosts file editor if they have one. You can also delete your current controlpanel.php file and upload the original one if you’re not comfortable with code.

The problem with deleting the current controlpanel.php file is that it doesn’t come up. I click on controlpanel.php and that error message comes up. If I could see the control panel I could probably fix it, but I can’t.

    FTP Clients

“There are two ways of getting files onto your site, and once there, changing them.

    1. By using your cPanel, or whatever file manager is provided by your host.
    2. By using a FTP client. This guide will show you how to use FileZilla. “

Filezilla is free, very popular and pretty easy to use. Do a little reading first. Your hosts file manger should also allow you to edit or delete and replace files as well.

The easiest solution may be to simply replace the file with a fresh version from the theme. Not something you would normally do from the wordpress dashboard.

I used the file manager on my hosting site. The control panel was buried in a crazy spot, but I eventually found it. I deleted the code I added and updated the file. Voila!!!

Thanks guys, I’m sure I’ll get better at this stuff the more I learn. All is right now…and I can breathe again.

?? Thanks! And please visit my site [redacted] any time you like.

    Nice!!

    Best wishes!
