I have wasted HOURS after migrating a site to a new host and still cannot fix the problem!
I have searched and read every thread on every forum that tries to address this problem but none has worked.
I have manually searched my database for old URL paths and every nextgen file too.
Somewhere somehow the code is picking up an old URL string but I cannot locate where.
I’m pretty sure its encoded in regular expressions which makes it impossible to find.
If anyone knows a solution to this PLEASE HELP!
I have a very angry client right now whom I’m asking kindly to be pacient whilst I try to resolve this issue.
I have posted a VERY detailed bug report but no response.
    This is RIDICULOUS!
Have tried all Nextgen’s suggestions but all failed.
    I hope somebody can help.
Sorry to rant but it’s really hurting!

@huemanfoo – Please try our external Reset Tool plugin here: https://bitbucket.org/photocrati/nextgen-gallery-reset/get/default.zip

To install and activate, go to Plugins > Add New … Upload Plugin
To use, go to Tools > NextGEN Gallery Reset

We do not offer specific support for the Reset Tool plugin as is but it can help in many circumstances, please let us know if it does.

    Thanks!

Thank You. Unfortunately, neither the Reset Tool plugin nor the built in reset tool, nor the gallery option display panel fixed this.

I would like to detail here exactly what happens when migrating a site that is using Nextgen Galleries on post pages with thumbnails.

I have tested this on different servers and it does the same each time.
This makes it a nightmare workload if you have a lot of galleries as you have to manually go in each post to fix it.

The screenshots I am providing should be self explanatory.
Basically what seems to be happening is that somewhere in the galleries, the absolute path to the Nextgen Legacy gallery is somehow hardcoded somewhere so that the server name is embedded, hence, when moving servers, the path is no longer correct.

I have spent hours searching Database and files for ewhere this could possible be being stored but without success. I eventually had to bite the bullet and edit each listing manually.

Please see the screenshots in order and you should see whats happening.
Please, if there is a fix or solution for this, do let me know for future migrations.

I love your plugin, it works fabolously but obviously there doesn’t yet seem to be and import/export option nor is the plugin flawless for migration.

Thank you kindly for looking into this, I look forward to any insight!

(I’m actually assuming you hardcode the path into the actual image filenames as they are uploaded???)

    SCREENSHOTS:

MAIN PAGE WITHIN LIVE SITE: [NOT A VALID TEMPLATE] ERROR WHERE THUMBNAILS GALLERY SHOULD DISPLAY

ADMIN PAGE FOR RELEVANT POST: Placeholder image for thumbnail gallery

OLD PATH DISPLAYED WITHN TEMPLATE OPTION OF GALLERY DISPLAY SETTINGS

MANUAL SELECTION OF LEGACY GALLERY (WITHOUT PRE-SELECTED OLD PATH)

THUMBNAILS NOW DISPLAY ON LIVE SITE

@huemanfoo – Thanks for all of the additional details. In almost all migration related issues the use of the Reset Option / Tool will correct the problems with the paths to the images, galleries, etc.

The issue with templates does happen from time to time but we have not been able to sort out why specifically the absolute path to the template file is being migrated, but also to note we do not recommend using the “gallery” Legacy template as it is meant only as a guideline for creating custom Legacy templates. The installation “default” NextGEN Gallery template for Basic Thumbnails is no template at all; and, to the best of our understanding the use of the “captions” or “carousel” templates, or custom templates, migrate without issue.

I had the same problem when switching template from Modernize to Divi and this tool did the job. You have to place the galleries back on the page and style them but no images were lost.

    Thanks
