Maintenance update

  • Hi!

    I just received a question of one of the potential users of your plugin, who was hesitating to install, because the plugin hasn’t been updated in 17 months.

    Because you still answer questions in this forum I assured her, that it’s still safe to use, but you might want to release a minor update with “tested WP version” etc. so everyone knows the plugin is still alive ??

    Thanks for this note, Jos! You’re absolutely right that Simple Social Icons is still safe to use, and that these forums are monitored.

    The plugin is still in active use in many of our themes, and we’ll make sure to update the tested-with version in the next update.

    Is a new update already planned then? Because it’s common practice to update it with new versions, but I’m asking for a quick update and not wait another 17 months ??

    Thanks, Jos — we’re aware the tag needs to be updated, but I don’t have a timeline for the next update yet. I wouldn’t expect it to be 17 months from now, though!

    It’s not only about the “Tested up to”, but more about “Last updated: 1 year ago”. This also means that security scans flag the plugin as “possibly abandoned”.

    Understood, Jos, thank you. The plugin is in line for updates behind other StudioPress plugins — I just do not have an exact release date at present.

    You’re welcome to watch the public GitHub repo, though: https://github.com/copyblogger/simple-social-icons/. While not active at the moment, you’ll see more activity there prior to the next update.

    I’d be interested to in some kind of update so the plugin doesn’t say it’s been 2 years.
