Maintenance advise, it?′s possible?

Someone just recently did a plugin for this. I haven’t tried it though.

What about deleting index.php from your WP directory, and substituting an appropriate index.html page with the hiatus information? Though I think someone might be able to visit a page they’ve bookmarked…

The plugin oriecat points to is a great push-button option.

In the case WordPress is actually part of the maintenance (and so may not be available at times), I suggest what eveums has, though I’d recommend replacing it with a temporary index.php, not an index.html. Despite eveums concerns, this does shut out all blog access.
