main site on multisite

  • not sure the techinical term for the main site or primary site or network main site – but what i need is to know how to move the main site or duplicate it a and make a single site inside network…

    Confusing to say the least…. I might have to draw a pic due to my lack of terminology here…

    basically i created a multisite and instead of simply making a single site inside the site and working from there i worked directly with main site or network site… what i want to do is make the main site a single site if that makes since… Or is it one already? Can i back it up and duplicate it as a single site or would that require backing up the entire network?

    Export Unavailable for Main Site
    The main Network site (base: wp_; this site prefix: wp_; table prefix: wp_) cannot be exported as it is tied to the Network. It can only be backed up from the main Network Admin. All other subsites can be exported for importing into the same Network (aka Duplicate), another Network, or as a standalone site.     basically i want to move the main site to be a subsite and so that way i can back up it regualrly and the main site i want to create some sort of company password protected site for internal communications…

    My problem:
    I made a mistake “i believe” – I created a site for a client and instead of creating it as a single/subsite i created it as the main site in network…

    What i want to do is make my design business the main site and simple have the clients multisites all as single subsites from my main site…
    this will allow me the satisfaction of knowing i can simply back up any one of their many sites individually and since they are only using the one site right now i could at the very least back up it and move forward with subsites by duplicating and editing as they grow…

    Please help…

    Depends on what you’re exporting. If you’re planning on doing a site and handing it over to someone, I’d do a stand alone site. If you plan on hosting yourself, Multisite is fine.

    Sometimes I’ll mock up a theme on Multisite for a proof of concept, but since exporting widgets is still a pain, if I know it’s going somewhere else, I stand-alone ??
