Main page keeps showing at top of every page
-
I am new to WordPress but not new to creating personal websites for my business. I am using a standard template for now, to get the hang of things. On the main front page, I have set the logo, changed the background image, placed the menu where I want it, etc. Basically, all of the simple adjustments one can make with a click of a button from the main admin screen (no coding necessary).
I have already set it to a static page, as I’m not using it for blogging purposes.
I have not edited any css or done any custom coding, yet.
****My problem****: when viewing another page (for instance, if I go to the “contact” or “about us” page I have also created), the main front page STILL shows at the top of those pages….. and then I have to scroll down beneath it to see the “about us” or “contact” info.
It’s as if the entire main/front page is acting as a header to ALL other pages. I do not want this. I want to see the main front page on the main page alone. When I go to other pages (such as https://www.mywebsite.com/contact), I don’t want to see the main page again, and then have to scroll down underneath it to get to see the other page’s contents.
The only thing that should be shared across all pages is the actual header/menu.
I have seen others who use WordPress and it doesn’t do this unusual setup. Other WordPress sites have their front/main page with a background image, logo, captivating info, etc….but then when you click on another link (like the “about us” link, for example), a new page opens up and displays normally (without displaying the main page again, and forcing you to scroll down before you can see the other content beneath it).
Help??? No idea what I’m doing wrong.
