main image not showing with nextgen scroll gallery

I have been using the nextgen scroll gallery plugin with nextgen gallery and now as soon as I edit an image the thumbnails show but no main images. If I install the bmo expo plugin will the galleries work like they used to, will the main image be there as well as all my settings. I have read about changing the code in the php file … what is the best thing to do … should I try the code change or just install the newest version of the plugin. if I install the newest plugin version can I just deactivate the old plugin until I see how things are working. I have 2 websites that I need to do this with.
