Hi everybody,

the emails that are fetched by postie are not posted. I get a confirmation for the admin which says that the post has successfully posted, but there is no link to the post in the mail and the post seems to be just disappeared.

In fact two posts have been posted, but lot more have not. But I cannot find any difference in the mails I have sent.

Does anyone have an idea?

thanks!

I need some more information before I can help.

What does the confirmation email look like?

Have you followed the steps in https://postieplugin.com/faq/get-detailed-postie-output/ to see if there are any error messages?

Thanks for your reply.

The confirmation mails look like this:

For the posted mail:
“Your post ‘Cha: Chancen’ has been successfully published to ABC-List <https://example.org/wordpress/?p=878>.”

The confirmation for the not posted mail is missing the link at the end:
“Your post ‘Hin: Parlamentswahlen’ has been successfully published to ABC-List <>.”

The plugin settings were in both cases identical. I also tried different ways of sending the second mail/post (forwarding, copy the text in a new mail). The categories are correct. Other mails with the category “Hin:” worked.

I also ran the debug function and found this error message with the unsuccessfull post:
“Error: Der Beitrag konnte nicht in der Datenbank aktualisiert werden” (The post could not be updated in the database)
But I don’t know, what that means for me to do.

That is a WordPress error. Do you have other plugins installed? What happens if you disable everything except postie?

Thread Starter FBhallo

(@fbhallo)

Thanks again for your support and sorry for the delay.

I disabled now all other plugins except Postie, but the result is the same.

The problem seems to be the german “?”. All mails that contain this character don’t go through. The other german characters ? ? ü do not cause any problems.

So what could I do?

Please send a sample email that is failing to [email protected] and leave a note here when you have done so and I will take a look.

I just sent you one of the denied emails. It has the subject “Hin: Parlamentswahlen”, where “Hin:” is for the category.

I was able to process the email without issue.

What is the Postie setting “Encoding for pages and feeds”

What language is WordPress set to?

What is the WordPress DB_CHARSET (wp-config.php)?

What is the encoding for your database, specifically the post table?

What is your PHP default_charset (in php.ini)?

> What is the Postie setting “Encoding for pages and feeds”
UTF-8. I tried the other options, without any change in the effect.

> What language is WordPress set to?
German

> What is the WordPress DB_CHARSET (wp-config.php)?
utf8

> What is the encoding for your database, specifically the post table?
utf8mb4_unicode_ci

> What is your PHP default_charset (in php.ini)?
none

If you create a post using the editor will it save successfully if you have the “?” character in the post?

Thread Starter FBhallo

(@fbhallo)

Yes, everything is fine when I write a post with “?” in the editor.

Ensure there is an email waiting with the “?” character then click the Run Postie (Debug) button and look for the error message. Directly below it and before the word “Done” should be some additional information about why it failed.

Thread Starter FBhallo

(@fbhallo)

Here are the lines before “Done” in the debug report:

Error: Der Beitrag konnte nicht in der Datenbank aktualisiert werden

MailToRecipients: send mail

To: [email protected]

From: WordPress <[email protected]>
Cc: [email protected]

MailToRecipients: Successfully posted to JOE-List
Your post 'test' has been successfully published to ABC-List <>.

Done

The mail in the post box disappeared after running postie, no post appeared on wordpress neither on the site nor among the unpublished posts.

Thanks. This helps me understand where the error is happening. Please contact me at [email protected] so I can send you a version of Postie with some additional logging so we can track this down.
