Mailchimp plugin created 66,000 scheduled actions in 48 hours

Three hours later and we’re up to 84,000!

The vast majority (70k+ are in a completed state, with around 10k in failed/canceled)

@gwall yes this plugin will sync your products on updates. You’re probably using some sort of bulk updater I assume? We don’t currently have anything in place to turn this off – but if you really need to shut that part off, we could instruct you on how to disable this specific job with a little effort but would take an edit to the PHP code and could be dangerous unless a developer does it.

Can you expand on your use case a little so we can come up with a solution ( even if it’s a temporary one )? Maybe we need to add in a “constant” you could add to turn this feature on or off while you’re doing bulk updates? Just thinking out loud here. What you’re describing is not abnormal but we understand it can be frustrating if you’re getting clogged up in the queue pipeline and need to adjust.

Yeah this sounds like it’s probably on the nail.

We have products synced from feeds which run by cron on different schedules, but there’s the possibility for up to 40 product updates each day.

Any chance, as a workaround we can fix the plugin to schedule just once per 24hr period? That should then help to reduce the number of syncing actions.

My main problem was that the action scheduler log & history tables in the DB end up huge quite quickly, as well as the potential for cloggin in the queue.

@gwall go ahead and reach out to me directly ( ryan @ vextras.com ) and we can try to come up with a solution together. I’ll try to put some thought into this since you’re the first one that’s asked this question and I don’t fully have the right answer yet. I actually think it’s an awesome idea though because I can see how this might really benefit more than one store owner.

The downside to this solution, is that if you are out of inventory, Mailchimp won’t be able to know about this and it would impact your product recommendations that go out… just a few little issues that COULD come into play is all I’m trying to set the stage for.

One other thing – is you should probably be considering the use of the Action Scheduler CLI version, along with the high throughput options they offer so you can handle thousands of jobs in the amount of time it would normally take a hundred and that might actually be all you need as well.
