We’ve been using this plugin for a few months now to hide a beta forum which is only available to certain users.

However, we’ve just discovered that when we post something on that forum, email notification is apparently going out to other forum users. A non-member of the beta group just posted a question asking why they couldn’t see the forum where we just had an announcement.

    Any ideas?

bbPress Notify (No-Spam) 1.16.2 is a plugin that sends emails to all users of an access level, and is probably the culprit.

    suggest you remove it.

I will take a look and see if I can add a filter for it.

Uhm, well yeah, I need people who participate in regular forums to be notified whenever there’s an update to a discussion.

bbpress has subscriptions for that, but appreciate that you may want more.

I’ve already had a look at the issue and contacted the author of bbPress Notify (No-Spam) to confirm that a particular filter in his code should work if I hook to it, so hopefully in the next few days I’ll have a fix.

Hi all. I’m the author of bbPress Notify (No-Spam). It’s got 2 types of settings: per role notifications and per bbPress Core Subscriptions.

@dhjdhj, you probably have per role notifications turned on. I provide a premium add-on that acts as a bridge between bbpnns and bbp-private-groups so that people can keep using per role notifications, limiting them only to whoever has access to see the forums/topics.

    Cheers,

@dhjdhj looks like Vinny’s plugin is the solution

Well, I’m glad to know there’s a premium version of Notify, I’m in favor of supporting developers.

Having said that, turns out that the problem we encountered happened because the post was marked sticky.

The customer who was NOT on our beta but who contacted us about this sent me an image of what he had seen. I was able to reproduce the problem by creating a new regular userid for myself after which point I could also see that private post. When I “unstuck” that post, it was no longer visible.

    Hi @dhjdhj,

Your original support topic was regarding notifications. The comment just above is about topic visibility due to being sticky.

I recommend opening a new thread to discuss the visibility issue.

    Cheers,
    Vinny

@dhjdhj – there are two types of sticky topic – sticky and super-sticky

Sticky topics appear on the top of a specific forum, and should not be seen by those who don’t have access.

Super-sticky topics appear at the top of all forums, so are visible to all.

If you are using the ‘front-end’ tools – that is clicking the options in a post when it is being viewed, then it is not obvious and it says

    stick (to front)

If you click the stick part – then it is sticky, if you click the (to front) part then it is super sticky. That is just a bbpres thing and not much I can do about it.

If you are just making it sticky and you still have issues, with those being seen, then please come back, and it needs to be resolved.

First of all, thanks for the rapid ongoing support, particularly since I completely mislead everyone with what I thought was the problem.

Not sure what kind of “sticky” was used, my partner had added it. However, I removed the sticky and for now we just won’t make any sticky posts. Our beta is almost over anyway and I’ll revisit everything once we’re past this.

    Thanks Again
