Hi, I was just alerted by a visitor to my blog that comments aren’t getting in due to what seems to be a bug in the PHP code. When trying to post a comment, the following error string shows up:

‘Fatal error: Cannot redeclare add_magic_quotes() (previously declared in […]/public_html/wordpress/wp-comments-post.php:4) in […]/public_html/wordpress/wp-includes/functions.php on line 2144’

I’m running WP 2.0.4. What can I do to solve this thing? Thanks in advance.

  • Did you just do an upgrade from an older version of WordPress? If so, did you delete the old files before uploading new? What plugins do you have ?

Maybe one of the threads through this search result will help?

I did an upgrade a while back and comments worked perfectly for quite a while after that upgrade (too well, in fact; they were mostly spam). I made no changes whatsoever in my settings or files before this problem appeared – no new plugins, no template changes, nothing. And I only have 3 active plugins: Explicit Category Sort, Dashborad Options and Subscribe me.

Regarding the search… humpf… I made several searches for magic quotes and add magic quotes, which came up empty… I forgot to include the understrokes. :/

Still, it doesn’t seem to be any of those problems, since they all arose after changes while mine came up without changing a thing… by me at least. I don’t know if my provider might have changed something in the settings without telling me.

In any case, replacing wp-comments-post.php with a fresh copy solved the problem.

    Thanks

Oh ok.. well, glad to hear that it’s fixed now. ??
