• Just curious if most users here are on Mac or PC? I’m using a mac, and Firefox. If anyone is interested, I’d love some feedback about my site using various platforms and browsers. I think this is the hardest part of the design process: making it look good to everyone.
I did have 1 issue with my macIE, and that was the drop shadow ‘plug in’ didn’t display the thumbnail pics at all. Anyone else seeing this or know how to fix it? In the past MacIE has been screwy, then at a later date looks fine after no alteration on my end. It’s from M$, so who knows!
    Thanks everyone! https://www.elmsblog.com

  • Hmm, is it *that* important? Especially since most Mac users are not using Mac:IE due to the drop of support. I’m on a Mac and use Safari and FireFox.

    @xqmoons:
try doing a search on google for margin bugs in ie5 – it has known problems and workarounds

WebSlog here. SUrprised and heartened by the number of Mac users who chimed in on this topic. I truly thought I was one of the few. As mine is hosted (icdsoft.com [holla]), I can noodle with all of it pretty much anywhere, including at work (iMac running OS 9), a client’s machine (WIn 2000) and Wife’s eMac. I typically check laout and rendering in safari, IE for Win, Firefox. I’ve had the same issues with IE for Mac 5.2.3 displaying background. Will try Anon’s tip on googling margin bugs in IE5.

Thanks to all of you who have responded! It is greatly appreciated! Lane: it’s not *that* important except for the fact that 1) I’m type-A, 2) why SHOULDN’T it work??? 3) it would be nice for Mac user’s who do (unfortunately) use IE to be able to have the same eye-candy and experience as everyone else. ??
Beel: DON’T get me started! ??
Thanks Anon for your tip on margin bugs. I will do as you suggested.
One other item – this is not the proper place exactly but I noticed MANY of you use FireFox. I had a real problem with it and was wondering if anyone could help. Anyone have any objections if I post my question about it here? If so, can you direct me to where I can ask?
    Thanks!!!

Go for it, doesn’t stop anyone else!

LOL LOL Thanks, Beel. Well as I said before, I heard of FireFox actually through this post. Was curious – checked it out, interested, so I downloaded both FireFox and Thunderbird. Here’s what happened — (I am working on a G4 Powerbook running OS X 10.3.4 by the way) software automatically downloaded, unzipped, etc. I clicked on the Thunderbird icon – nothing happened. No response. Repeated this several times – nothing. I clicked on the FireFox icon and it would appear and disappear repeatedly in the dock – said “program not responding.” I couldn’t force quit the program, restart or shut down my computer. Had to finally hold down the power button and wait for the computer to shut down. Deleted everything and tried again – exact same results. Others must be using FireFox with Mac just fine. Any ideas?

lol xqmoons, “why SHOULDN’T it work” is answered in one word: microsoft ?? [evil grin] low blow to window users, I know, sorry.
FireFox is still beta, but… Any other apps behaving like this? I’m curious also, is iTunes running at the same time? There seems to be a problem with iTunes locking the system; its the only thing I’ve seen to be able to completely lock up the system (without even being able to force quit the app), but it will break out of the lockup within 30minutes. I’m running 10.3.4 as well and only see it happen once in a while (I’ve learned not to fast forward a song for the time being…).
Also check this: FireFox Crashing on Startup
I’ve been liking FireFox a lot more than Safari lately, especially with the extensions you can download for FireFox. The best being Webdeveloper, which puts in a new toolbar with functions like defining the block elements of a page, validating, etc.

Hi there Lane, Thanks for your response. LOL there isn’t enough server space in the world for me to begin my rant on Windows so I’ll leave that alone! ??
None of my other apps have ever done what I described – first time I’ve seen it (with FireFox). I wasn’t running iTunes. Haven’t had trouble with iTunes yet. I went to the link you gave me – FireFox Crashing on Startup and got the following error:
“The MozillaZine Forums are offline for maintainence. Sorry for the downtime. Have you donated lately?
Update – The forums machine cannot handle the load during the day. I am going to be doing rolling blackouts of the server, so we can at least give you access to the site sometimes. We are in the process of evaluating options going forward. Until a solution is found, we will try to keep them online as much as possible. I really appreciate all your support and donations, and hope to have this resolved soon. “
I’ll keep checking back. I’d really like to try FireFox for myself as I’ve heard such great things about it….
