<p> showing up in XHTML validation but not in actual page html

Hi folks,

I have a page written in HTML, I didn’t use <p> tags at all in the page but when I check it in the XHTML Validator, there are a few of them and I get warnings because I haven’t closed them, but I didn’t add them to begin with!

Has this happened to anyone before?

Should I just add closing </p> tags to close them or is it something I’ve done wrong?
