• First a suggestion:
when starting a scan, would it be possible to have a “PAUSE SCAN” button and then “CONT. SCAN” and not just a “STOP SCAN”?

I use in Performance Options – “Use low resource scanning”
and yet while watching on my hosting provider the Statistics, I see warnings during the scan of I/O:
    I/O Usage
    975 KB/s / 1 MB/s (95.21%)
Any chance to slow the I/O down if this option is checked ?
PS: When stopping the scan, I/O goes down to 12%, so the load it coming from Wordfence.

  • Hey @mbeerli,

Can you send me a Diagnostics report so I can get a better overview of your environment? Please navigate to Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics. Here you can select SEND REPORT BY EMAIL. Please include your www.remarpro.com username and update this thread after you’ve sent it.

    Thanks,

    Gerroald

    Hello WFGerroald,
that is a huge report, what in particular are you interested in?
What I have found in earlier resource issues is that I have a cache plugin called WP Fastest Cache (wp-fastest-cache) – Version 0.9.0.3

    Hey @mbeerli,

Yes, it’s very detailed. Please use the SEND REPORT BY EMAIL button to send the entire report. Various information, including your PHP memory, server configuration, other active plugins, and etc. Getting an overview of the environment may help determine what’s needed to lower the load, or if the site needs more resources.

Also, try deleting all cache and disabling the WP Fastest Cache to see if it helps.

    Thanks,

    Gerroald

I do not want to show all plugins and all the details.
For me the file checking is causing a lot of I/O.

If the scan can be slowed down if low resources is check then that would be great.

Here is what I can tell you:
    I/O Usage
    0 bytes/s / 1 MB/s (0%)
    Before starting the Scan

    I/O Usage
    811 KB/s / 1 MB/s (79.2%)
    [Feb 26 08:45:14] 17000 files indexed
    [Feb 26 08:45:15] 17500 files indexed
    [Feb 26 08:45:15] 18000 files indexed

    I/O Usage
    988 KB/s / 1 MB/s (96.48%)
[Feb 26 08:49:18] Analyzed 8600 files containing 42.39 MB of data so far
[Feb 26 08:49:21] Analyzed 8700 files containing 44.09 MB of data so far
[Feb 26 08:49:22] Analyzed 8800 files containing 44.69 MB of data so far
[Feb 26 08:49:30] Analyzed 8900 files containing 51.52 MB of data so far
[Feb 26 08:49:37] Analyzed 9000 files containing 57.98 MB of data so far

    Hey @mbeerli,

I spoke with some colleagues about this. While I completely understand not wanting to share the Diagnostics, without knowing the server config, plugins running, and etc, it’s a guessing game as to what’s exactly contributing to this. If you do choose to send the Diagnostic report so we can take a look into this I assure you it’s private. The only people that will see it are myself and a developer if I need some advice.

Please let me know if you’re able to send the Diagnostic over.

    Thanks,

    Gerroald

    Hello WFGerroald,
I think the developer in charge of the Scan knows what it might be with the feedback I provided so far. Sharing more information is I believe not needed. If you would have a specific question, I do not mind answering it. The I/O on my shared hosting environment is going up when starting and stopping your scan. Unfortunately there is not pause/continue button (see first suggestion) to immediately stop and check resources and then continue, you have to start over again. See what your dev teams thinks of it and if the option is checked for low resources to slow the scan of the files down.
I am willing to test it on my site.
    thanks
