• I’ve searched for this and cant come up with an answer.

If I save an image at 960px wide x 960px high and upload it then insert it into a post at say 300px x (whatever it is proportional) the image is blurry. Once I click on that photo the lightbox plugin opens it up at my desired final view of 960px x 960px and it’s high quality. Why does that happen?

The only way around this that I can figure out is to place the photo in the post at original size and then in the editor reduce the size proportionally by dragging the control corners to 300px.

Before I get too far along uploading my media what am I missing?

How should I go about uploading my images at 960px (so they can be opened by lightbox at 960px) but inserting them into posts at a smaller size while having the thumbnail be clear?

All my images are being saved for the web properly in Photoshop using the save for web feature.

Does the problem stem from thumbnail settings and the dimensions not being proportional to my various different size images. i.e. some are horizontal some are vertical etc

    Thanks
    iso.

  • Check with your hosts that you are using the latest version of GD Library.

I just called godaddy and they said GD Library is all set and updated.

I just tried the same image on my old wordpress site on a different server with a different host co. and the same thing happens. The thumbnail at 300px is blurry but when you click on it, it opens as a larger view using the lightbox plugin and it’s perfectly clear at the original px dimensions I specified in photoshop.

Can you provide a link to a page demonstrating the problem?

heres the page. I placed the photo as a test. It’s the photo of the person on a canoe.

    https://www.restigouchelodge.com/?page_id=261

Looks like someone (or something) is rescaling the images. That image is supposed to be 300 x 200px but it’s been rescaled within the markup to 459 x 305.

Ok, I think I know whats happening.

If I want my thumbnails to be 400px wide or 600 px wide and have them OPEN with lightbox to my original large uploaded size of say 900px I need to tell the thumbnails to be that size ( 400 or 600 px )

So I went into the settings>media area and changed my thumbnail sizes to those larger sizes I wanted. However I think those changes only work with photos that are uploaded after those thumbnail settings are changed. I couldn’t go into my posts and insert the already uploaded images and use those new settings because they were not available. I had to delete my uplaoded photo and reupload it THEN those new thumbnail sizes were available.

So I guess the point is if I place the thumbnail using the settings of 300px I cannot enlarge those thumbnails on the post page by dragging to 450px otherwise the thumbnail is blurry. I need to set the thumbnail sizes to be larger in my settings.

    Thanks for the help,
    iso
