• Hi Frank! I have been doing some research after running Google Page Speed. I am happy to find you… Looks like you answer all the questions unlike others. I download Autoptimize and just haven’t turned it on. I was just worried as I don’t want to screw anything up.

    There are several options and I am not running any other plugins to optimize anything. There is HTML, Java and CSS. Should I just check them all? I also was looking at your other plugins.

    I saw you have something for YouTube videos(WP YouTube Lyte). I have a video based website that will eventually be thousands of pages. Can you peak and tell me if I am missing some simple things to speed things up?

    I have pages with a lot of video playlists running through a plugin called YouTube Pro. I am only using it for the cool thumbnails that it produces.

    I started to reduce the larger pages and split them into smaller sections: https://iwanttotravelto.com/packages/las-vegas-nevada

    The first new page that split up the above page into smaller video sections: https://iwanttotravelto.com/las-vegas-theater-shows-performances/

    After redoing that first page into the second page it looks like the problem got worse rather than better. There are 1/4 the videos on that new page.

    Is this just the template, YouTube, code issues or missing plugins.

    Any help would be appreciated. I also see that you don’t want donations. Looks like you are doing great work here.

    Thanks! Tom

    hi there Tom;
    first off; autoptimize. ideally you have a non-production site and you can experiment with the AO settings there. if you don’t, you could just try and if it doesn’t work disable or go through the FAQ for info on how to troubleshoot. and I’m indeed here to answer questions if needed ??

    regarding wp youtube lyte: not sure if it offers the same fancy thumbnails as youtube pro, lyte relies on the thumbnails youtube provides (but you can override them via the API).

    regarding your video-heavy site, a quick test reveals;
    * the entire page “costs” 5MB to download, which is way to much really
    * you have a significant amount of CSS & JS (AO could help)
    * there’s 5 YT video’s being loaded (Lyte could help, but out of the box it doesn’t work the same way)
    * your time to first byte (of your base HTML-page) is too slow (you’ll want a page caching plugin, e.g. wp super cache or hyper cache or ..)
    * text-based responses (HTML, CSS, JS, …) aren’t compressed (AO will help for JS/CSS)
    * most responses don’t have the appropriate caching information (telling browsers to reuse files from cache where possible, AO can help for JS/CSS)
    * your header image can (and should) be compressed (half a meg to be gained there)

    guess you know what your 2016 will be ??

    kind regards,
    frank
