• I installed wp yesterday and uploaded my theme. First, my widgets wouldn’t drag. I tried everything (deactivating plugins, making sure javascript was enabled on Chrome). I also tried a couple of other themes, and it still didn’t work. I finally, after looking at other forums, added “use google libraries” and now I can drag my widgets.
But there are other things going on. I am unable to change my Flexx template. I try to go from a right sidebar to a left sidebar. I save it. Nothing changes. Also, some plugins that I search for in Add New just sends me back to my home page.
There are too many odd things happening, and I haven’t even begun to try and design my website. I don’t know what to do.
I have me site under construction. If you need to look at it, I can deactivate the plugin (I hope!).

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Hi Esmi, Yes, I had already tried the first 2 suggestions. I just tried resetting the php folder, but it didn’t change anything. Any other ideas? Thanks!

Try resetting the plugins via Phpmydmin. I’ve known of cases where this has been the only way to disable a really problematic plugin.

Like I said, I already did that. It didn’t change anything. Should I reinstall? I just installed this with Fantastico 2 days ago & am having all kinds of problems. If yes, I really need it explained for a newbie!
    Thanks

Like I said, I already did that.

You made the necessary changes in your database?

    (@soullotus)

Well, I did what you suggested above about the php resetting the plugins folder. Nothing changed.

Did you use FTP or did you make changes to your database?

    (@soullotus)

I did it in the database.

Esmi, I wrote the other post because I really need help with how to re-install wp safely. It may take care of all the issues I brought up here. I posted it when it didn’t look like this thread was going anywhere. I still need that info. Should I repost it and then delete this one?

No – please stick to this topic for now. Try deleting the Fantastico install and re-installing WordPress manually.

I would love to, but I have no idea how. I can’t find a tutorial that I understand. Do you have any suggestions how someone can do this without much knowledge? Thanks!

Please see the link I posted above.

Thanks. I didn’t see the link when I read this in my email. I will see if I can figure it out,
My hosting co. said I have reached my CPU limit 8 times since I installed this less than 48 hours ago. Is this related? I don’t understand it (sorry)

Esmi, if I just delete Fantastico then reinstall, won’t I lose everything? This tutorial doesn’t address reinstalling safely, just installing.

    Is this related?

Possibly – although it could also means that your hosts are very restrictive and that you need to move to a new host. Have you installed any plugins or activated any new themes?

    won’t I lose everything?

You could export all of your content before you un-install via Admin -> Tools. Then re-install and import the content – again via Admin -> Tools.
