Hi, I’m using Yoast SEO for my site and I’ve had continual issues with Google Search Console indexing my pages.

Currently I’m showing 20 pages under Coverage as Valid, yet there are a ton that are not actually getting indexed.

I tried to resubmit my sitemap about 10 days ago, and when I did it said it was successful, but now when I look at my sitemaps, it says Sitemap could not be read.

    Can someone assist?

    Hi @avcobb123

Regarding the index coverage in Google Search Console, you shouldn’t expect 100% coverage. There are also lots of valid reasons as to why certain pages on your site aren’t being considered valid (such as if they have been excluded, or there is a warning or error). You can learn more about it here – https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/7440203?hl=en

We understand you are receiving a ‘sitemap could not be read’ message from GSC. Would it be possible for you to provide more details and a screenshot of the exact message and if there is any other information or details, if this is occurring for a specific sub-sitemap?

We ask as we checked your main /sitemap_index.xml and we did see everything was loading as expected, including all of the sub-sitemaps. However, there was one sub-sitemap (/tcb_lightbox-sitemap.xml) that had 0 URLs, so if there isn’t any valid content for that, you might want to noindex that particular post type or taxonomy so that it is removed from the sitemap – https://yoast.com/help/how-to-customize-the-sitemap-index/

Then we would recommend removing and resubmitting your /sitemap_index.xml and then monitoring it for changes accordingly – https://yoast.com/help/submit-sitemap-search-engines/#google-remove
