Hi all, I have been given a site to work on, it has a lot of issues, I am tackling them one by one.
Firstly, there is a LOT of files in the Cache / Object folder, can I safely delete these?

The old web team seem to have installed W3 Cache but it is disabled, I do not know why this would be.

Would your plugin interfere with any redirect plugins, as this is the only thing I can see that could be a problem that they have installed.

I will be installing your plugin in to handle cache, but for now I need these files gone if it is safe to do so.
    Thanks all!
    Terry

    Hello @terryscott2

I am sorry about the issue you are experiencing and I am happy to assist you with this.
Yes, it is safe to delete the entire cache folder including those files. This is led over from when W3 Total Cache was enabled previously.
There should be no issues with the redirect plugin or redirect rules, but you should check the .htaccess after you enable W3 Total Cache to make sure there is no conflict.
    Thank you!

    Thanks so much!
What would I be looking for in the Htaccess file?
I could email it to you if it helps?
I know that a while back the old web team did something to redirect a lot of urls but I am honestly not sure of the details.
    Thanks again

    Hello @terryscott2

It really depends on the plugin you are using.
If you start experiencing issues, check for the rewrite/redirect rules in .htaccess out of W3TC rules. Backup the .htaccess and remove those rules and see if the issue persists.
    Thank you!

    Hi, thanks ??
At them moment I am not using any plugin, the old dev team installed W3 but it is not activated, this has made me cautious as there must be a reason.
I have inherited this site so am trying to pick my way through the issues.

I am looking at the htaccess file and there is a section:

    # BEGIN W3TC Browser Cache

There are also 3 htaccess type files, the usual .htacess a .htaccess.swp and a .gitignore

Can you help me dig a bit deeper, I really really appreciate your help so far,

    Terry

    Hell @terryscott2

Yes W3 Total Cache adds # BEGIN W3TC Browser Cache if browser cache is active.
you should check the usual .htaccess file. The swp is a backup swap file that is created by your system to help ensure that you don’t lose important file content when something goes wrong. And it generally sits in the same directory as the original file and has .swp as its extension.
And gitignore – Specifies intentionally untracked files to ignore.
remove all directives set by W3 Total cache in .htaccess (make a backup first).
Activate W3 Total Cache and choose your settings. Make sure to save all settings and purge the cache.
Activate the settings one by one. if you start to experience any issues, simply revert the settings.
    Thanks!

OK, that’s a bit scary but I will try.
There is a reference to wp-content/cache/page_enhanced as well, I looked in that folder and there are a decent amount of files.

Would it be possible to simply re enable the plugin do you think?
    Thanks
