• Hello all, I’m a newbie to WordPress, and I’m missing my Tiny MCE toolbar on the Write Post/Page screens.

I originally was running 2.1.2 without problems. But at some point lost the toolbar. In doing a little searching on line, I’ve tried the following all without success:

    1. Re-uploaded the WP files for 2.1.2
    2. Upgraded to 2.1.3
    3. Tried using IE (I’m using Firefox)
    4. Cleared my cache (in Firefox)
    5. Followed the instructions in romicozone’s site about unchecking the “disable or replace the context menus” in the javascript tab of the content tab under the Tools menu.

What I’m seeing is the “Visual” and “Code” tabs, but no icons beneath them. It also appears that when I click between the two tabs, nothing happens. And when I save my posts, when they are displayed in the editor, I see all the html tags (like I’m in the code view).

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

  • What “Internet Security” suite are you running on your PC? What happens if you temporarily disable it?

I’m using Grisoft’s AVG (the free version). If I disable it and reload the Write Post page, I have the same problem.

I’ve posted an image of the problem on my blog here.

I’m thinking the problem may not be “missing icons”, but rather missing visual tab, since it seems like it’s stuck on the code tab (and when I click on the visual tab, nothing happens (nor does anything happen when I click on the code tab).

btw, I also have a local version of WP installed on a Linux server here at home (which I access from the same PC / browser as my online version) and I don’t have any problems with that site (all the icons appear).

In comparing the two, I notice that with the one that’s not working (online version) the text box where your right your posts goes all the way to the right (and runs into the categories column) whereas the one that is working stops short of that and has the little “expand” icon in the bottom right corner.

    Thanks

I discovered some more insights on my problem that may help resolve it.

In further testing, I removed all my plugins and the problem went away. I then added them back to see which one was causing the problem. Unfortunately, it isn’t that simple.

The six plugins I’m using are:

    Advanced Admin Menus – v 2.1.1
    Akismet – v 2.0
    Counterize II – v 2.04
    Related Posts – v 2.04
    Sidebar Widgets – v 1.2.1.20070210b
    wp-cache – v 2.1.1

Removing all plugins – No problem
Each plugin by itself – No problem
AAMenus and Akismet only – No problem
AAMenus, Akismet, Sidebar Widgets only – No problem
AAMenus, Akismet, Sidebar Widgets & WPCache – No problem
AAMenus, Akismet, CII only – No problem

    All six – Problem
    All except AAMenus – Problem
    All except RelPosts – Problem
All except RelPosts & WPCache – Problem
AAMenus, Akismet, CII, RelPosts only – Problem

Any ideas why any of these plugins would cause problems on the “Write Post” tab of the admin page?

Could it be some kind of memory problem or configuration? I don’t have a problem with the same plugins on my local server copy (I cannot reproduce the problem locally). Additionally, I compared the local copy source “View Source” html of the Write Post page with the online copy and except for the address differences, the two are identical.

As a newcomer to WP, I don’t have any idea plugin could be causing problems or why, so in the meantime, I will just have to continue to go through each permutation and see if I can make sense out of it.

    Thanks,

I have the same problem I think, and btw why is this topic tagged as “not a support topic”.

I recently installed two new 2.2s, one works perfectly but the other has no formatting buttons at all (though I’m sure they were there at first- I did post an opening article and I’m sure I’d have noticed ;).

I’ve done all the recommended fixes, checking and unchecking visual editor in profile, clearing the cache and forcing reload etc to no avail. All I have is the two tabs (Visual and Code) and clicking on them makes no difference at all – the view shows the post with <p> tags so I assume it’s the code view, but it won’t change to visual. Any help will be much appreciated, though I think I’ll just re-install…

    I have the same trouble…

    Anybody help us???

I have the same problem! Is just disappeared one day and I don’t know what I did o how to get the text toolbar back. Please help.

same problem, I’ve narrowed it down to the “category Template inheritor” plugin by Kaf, who’s site is down since he’s upgrading to 2.5 right now.

I had the same problem and remembered I had the TinyTable plugin installed (or whatever it was called, the thing that added table functions to the previous wordpress visual editor).

Disabled this plugin and the visual editor is back in full force.

    Hope this helps someone.
