Lost my backend after upgrading to 3.4.1

  • I got a real mess and I hope someone can help.

    I upgraded to 3.41 and lost my backend- in FF its a blank screen in chrome I get a 500 error. ?? How do I troubleshoot this? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    I don’t know if this has anything to do with it but just in case. About a week ago- before I upgraded- I duplicated the site with a new DN. The two sites are on the same server, so I didn’t bother duplicating the db, the two sites with the 2 different DNs share a db. The one place where I found a DN specified in the DB I changed to the new site DN. ( all this is because eventually I want to deprecate the old name- but not quite yet. And don’t tell me I should have done it different- because I know that now! ) All the links on the site click back to the old site. I don’t know whats up with that, and I don’t know if this has to do with the upgrade blanking on me, but I thought I’d mention it.

    If someone could help me out of this mess, I would truly appreciate it. I’m an old hand at Joomla, but I know nothing about WordPress.

    What’s the URL of your site?

    Also try some basic troubleshooting steps.

    – You hadn’t said what the old version of WordPress you were using. Give the 3.4 master list a read, you may be using something not compatible with 3.4.1.

    – Using FTP or whatever file management tools your host has provided you with, rename wp-content/plugins to wp-content/plugins-old. See if you can get into the WordPress dashboard after that. If it’s a simple plugin issue, that may work to get you back into your WordPress installation.

    Hi Jan,

    thanks for your suggestions. I tried them but nothing worked. My url is: Darajoycelurie.com.

    Any other suggestions on a fix? The site is pretty much disabled at the moment. You can get onto the homepage but there’s no access beyond that.

    Appreciate any further assistance you can bring.
