Lost Jetpack stats and followers after staging

    After restoring a staged site with Softaculous (my host is InMotion Hosting) I received a message that Jetpack had gone into Safe Mode. After reconnecting, a new Jetpack connection was created and all of my stats and followers disappeared.

    I now realize that I should have disabled Jetpack on the staged site per the instructions here: https://jetpack.com/support/staging-sites/. Will follow this in the future, but is there any way the original connection (with followers and stats) can be restored?

    If I follow the instructions on the Jetpack help page I mentioned above, will that prevent this from happening again?
