I am running WP 6.0.2 and have updated all my plugins.
    Browser is Edge
Server is shared hosting with InMotion
    ________________________________________

I was trying to install NextCloud and I have messed everything up.

After I got rid of the NextCloud stuff, I tried to log in to dctax.us and got “File not found”.

I contacted my hosting provider who basically said nothing we can do without a backup (yeah, I’m an idiot). I am just not convinced of that.

I am able to log on to wpadmin and I see all my posts, information, etc. I think, in my naive understanding, that all I need is a proper index file. So, I went to the trash, found index.php and restored it.

Then, it said something about Line 34 /lib/base.php. I found “require_once __DIR__ . ‘/lib/base.php’;” in the index.php file, so I went back to the trash, found lib/base.php & restored it.

Now it says, “apps directory not found! Please put the Nextcloud apps folder in the Nextcloud folder. You can also configure the location in the config.php file.”.

So, before I make this any worse (if it can be), I thought I would run it by the pro’s & see if anyone can offer a simple fix.

    Thank you all.

*If you are able to see all of the tables of your database — you can EXPORT all of the database for safekeeping.(in your webhosting account find the area PHPMYADMIN)
*If you are able to get to your WP-Content folder (in your webhosting file manager) you can download that folder to save plugins, themes and uploads (images and documents in your media library) + download the currently working version of WP-Config.
*I would not make any other adjustments before making some sort of copy of your site to preserve content (if it is still available).

Thank you, Lisa! I’ll do that before doing anything else. I’ll report back on any progress.

That was easier than I thought. So, I now have the database backed up and the wp-admin, wp-content & wp-includes backed up.

At this point, would it be prudent to reinstall WP and then import those things back in?

I would recommend talking to the webhosting support team again – now that you have a backup of all of your files and database – they might be in a better position to assist with recommending steps to get your site working.

Will do. I’m sure that’s the best outcome I can hope for, so I’m going to mark this as resolved.

Thank you again, Lisa for taking your time to help me!

Just verifying that Lisa’s advice was exactly what I needed to do.

If anyone else is in a similar situation, after I backed up my database, I re-installed WP. At first, I replaced the new WP-Content with the old but that didn’t do anything.

I then went into wpconfig and changed all the database entries to my old database info. Tada . . . site’s back up.
