Lost Image and Theme upon WordPress upgrade to 2.6.1 (Godaddy host)

Seemingly, there is something weird going on with godaddy’s automatic upgrade/rollback. See this similar thread:

Should I try to uninstall WordPress, re-install and then re-install my back-up? Can that be done? I am really technically challenged so I am at a loss.

No, that will not solve anything.

Try this: check the wp-content folder and see if there is a .htaccess file there. Not in the root but in the wp-content. Make a backup copy of it (just in case) by downloading in saving it on your machine. Then delete it. Do the themes come back?

I actually don’t see that file in the wp-content folder.

Did you check your ftp to show “hidden files”?

Just found where to do it and the file…trying now

I can’t download it to my desktop. Every time I try this it disapears

[I never download anything on my desktop (it would be way too cluttered), but in nicely organized folders in either My Documents or other places on the HD.]

Ok – so just delete it without saving a back-up. I can’t save a back-up anywhere – it says it saves and then I can’t find the file.

You don’t really need it – I was just curious to know what was its content.
