So I have installed and have been using a WP created website for a while now. occasionally I fiddle with the site and no doubt I have done something wrong, for since yesterday I receive an error message:

    Error establishing a database connection

I can reach the index when navigating to my site (wordmaker-international.eu) from where I can choose go to one of the three branches of my site, based on which language you choose. From there I receive said error.
I have followed the calls from my main index page, I can read code, but the calls which indicate a database setting seems to be all right. The pages I have checked have not been changed lately.
As said, I can read code, but have no idea when&where the database is called from within a WordPress generated site. That is a black box for me.
I never had any problems like this before. I am quite on SQL and relational databases, but again, have no inkling where to look to find this error.
I probably can get a backup restored from a few days ago, but I like to know how I can find out how the site interacts with the database. Is there any explanation for that? I can guess some things based on the table names, but that’s just that: guesswork.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Greetz,
    Hans Brouwer

  • It’s a host issue. Have you spoken to your hosts about this?

Yes, just now, tnx for answering.
The password for MySQL was changed, probably by the main admin. I’ll have to check with her, host operator told me the pw was changed but obviously would not give me the new one…;-)

    Tnx again.
