    Hi,

I’m using the Storefront theme and added/activated a simple child theme so I can update functions.php.

I used the theme customiser to customise the look of the website.

If I activate the actual Storefront theme, I lose all the customisations I’ve made when the child theme was active.

I expected the customisations to be kept.

    Am I doing something wrong?

    Thannks.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • You’re missing the purpose of a child theme.

It’s designed so you can make customizations without changing the main theme and having it overwritten with updates.

You need to leave the child theme active permanently. That’s how it works.

Thanks. I understand what you are saying but I have an issue in my child theme – so I deactivated it and expected the ‘theme customisations’ to still be active.

I thought the theme customisations would be store on the main theme.

Perhaps I’m not explaining it very well!

No, the child-theme controls customizations too. You might try setting up a staging site to trouble shoot your child theme if you don’t want to rebuild everything.

OK – thanks. I’ll try that.
