Just tried to update the AAM from the alert posted on the WP Dashboard. At first I thought I had lost all privileges but saw the AAM in the corner… I did a lot of check box checking – was that a permission or a block? Because when I refreshed the page I lost all but basic user control to the back end. Couldn’t even Add New post.

I read the other post about editing the php but didn’t want to go there.

I’ve had my IT roll back the site to its back-up and will try again another day. Maybe next version?

  • Hi taridonohue,
You have to be really careful what you are doing with AAM. It is simple but at the same time really powerful tool that can cause the issue you had.
My recommendation for future – do not play with Capability Tab. This is the only place where you can loose the control over your website if you change something for Administrator Role.

In case you upgraded AAM from 1.x version to 2.x, there is a change that this might break something because of incompatibility in settings. But for this purpose we have solutions and these solutions are already proved and safe.

    Appreciate your feedback.
    All the Best,
    Vasyl
