Lost access to network site

    Hi… I have a long-standing network of three sites, recently updated to WordPress 3.8.

    Now I can no longer get to my network site (where I can install plug-ins, themes etc.) The ‘My sites’ list only shows the sub-sites, not the network site itself.

    If I try and get to it with https://mydomain.com/wp-admin (omitting the sub-domain) I get a screen with

    You attempted to access the “mydomain site” dashboard, but you do not currently have privileges on this site. If you believe you should be able to access the “mydomain site” dashboard, please contact your network administrator.

    Confession: I have been having a clean-up and noted quite a lot of stuff on the network site, which was never used. I only used that site to do admin, like installing plug-ins, so I deleted the stuff. I may have deleted the network site itself – if that is possible? And if so, how to I regain access?

    Any help will be much appreciated.

    Whoops – its back. The Network Admin item has re-appeared in My Sites.

    I am not sure what made it disappear – possibly changing the primary site. Anyhow it is back now, so please ignore the above plea for help.

    Well, I’ve got same issue, sir.

    My domain.com/wp-admin opens perfectly well, I’m logging in my primary site but there is now link to multisite network. Moreover, “My Sites” lef-menu-item shows correct list of all my network sites.

    Can you guess with me what steps fixed the problem?

    Sadly, I am not sure what fixed it for me. Try logging out for all windows you may have open in your browser. Maybe close all windows and restart browser. I did not clear cookies and cache, but you might want to try that. Or try access from a different browser.

    Happily for me, everything has been fine. So once you get your access back, you too should be sorted.

    It would be good to hear from the WordPress people whether this is a known issue.

    Super Admin staus is kept track of separately. And you have to be logged in as a Super Admin to make another one, so. In your case, the only way to fix it now is in the db.

    look in the wp_sitemeta table for the site admins field. you’ll see a value like this:

    a:1:{i:0;s:6:”andrea”;}

    The 6 means my usenrame has 6 characters. andrea is my username. ?? Change whatever you have to your new changed username and that integer.
