Lost ability to login as admin to my WP site

I’ve lost the ability to login as admin to my WP site. There was a glitche of some sort and it had allocated admin status to one of my users, someone who no longer accesses my site and whose email address is now redundant. I deleted her via phpMyAdmin as WordPress wouldn’t delete her but now I’ve lost the ability to login as the admin myself. It seems to have removed my own admin account.

I’ve read many posts here about people trying to regain the ability to log back in. I’ve recreated an admin account via phpMyAdmin and tried logging in but I get a message saying I don’t have permission.

I’m using ver 3.5.5 of phpMyAdmin.

The site is huge and several years old. I really do need to log back into it again. Does anyone have any ideas that actually work please?

I’ve even tried the instructions at https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-add-an-admin-user-to-the-wordpress-database-via-mysql/ but without success.
