Hello, there, thank you for testing out our plugin!

Well the plugin takes care of all images that are served through one’s website and, to be more specific, al images that are stored inside the website. I believe that gravatar images are stored in -something like- gravatar.com.

Now, it is usually meaningful to worry only about large enough images. This means that images of 300px are already too small for the plugin to handle. Tell if you would like me to explain this a little more in detail.

Thanks, Nevma! I guess Google Page Speed is going to complain about every single byte anyways. Love the plugin!

Oh, just one more thing, the retina question. It would be awesome for the plugin to detect if the screen is retina or not and serve the images resized accordingly. I design for retina, so I upload all images @2x. But it would be nice to display them at @1x on normal screens for faster performance. I don’t think the plugin does this right now. Any thoughts? Are you going to implement this in a future update? Thanks!

Hey-hey, we already have implemented this! ??

It is an option in the settings page called HiDPI. It was added in version 0.5.0. Do check it out and let me know what you think.

Cool! Then I must be doing something wrong.

I have the HiDPI checked. In the resolutions field, I have this: 1024, 640, 480, 320.

I upload post images at 1600px so on the retina they would show nicely at 800px (the size of my template). All images have the width=”800″ attribute.

Yet, the gtmetrix often gives me a 0 for ‘Serve scaled images’ because it says ‘image is resized in HTML or CSS from 1024×683 to 552×368.’

If the screen they test the page on is not a retina screen, then there should be no resizing done because the plugin should serve the image @1x, correct?

And why 1024×683 to start with?

I would appreciate if you could shed some light on this because it puzzles me. Thanks!

Well, if your HTML has the width attribute set then the problem is actually CSS related! Can you point me at a specific image, so I can check it out? ??

The first image in this article is as good an example as any – https://www.travelersuniverse.com/how-to-become-a-successful-freelancer

In gtmetrix I get the following message:
https://www.travelersuniverse.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/7-Habits-of-Highly-Successful-Freelancers.jpg is resized in HTML or CSS from 1024x768 to 552x414. Serving a scaled image could save 50.5KiB (70% reduction).

Hmm, in order to take this into account you must make sure that the test you do with Gtmetrix is under some kind of mobile device mode. What I am saying is that Gtmetrix by default is not actually testing your website emulating a real small screen device!

I did test the url you sent and the image you mention and it seems that it is resized correctly by the plugin. If you really need to check it out for yourself you should follow something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCAC1XUUOvw/.

Also you may test with a service like webpagetest.org which has an actual mobile device emulation mode!
